Saqib H. Khateeb

Saqib H. Khateeb is a Doctoral Candidate in Religious Studies at the University of Ottawa (Canada). He graduated from SOAS-University of London (UK) with an MA in Islamic Studies majoring in Islamic Law. He holds another master’s degree in Islamic Finance from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU, Qatar) and a BA in Islamic Law and Jurisprudence, from the Islamic University of Madinah (Saudi Arabia). Before his academic career, Saqib received intensive training and learning in many Islamic disciplines, including Aqidah, Quran, Tafsir, Ḥadith Sciences, Sirah, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Maqasid, and Arabic literature. He holds multiple ijazas in Islamic sacred texts and subject matters.
Saqib has worked extensively throughout his academic career. He was a visiting Researcher at Ibn Haldun University in Istanbul (Turkey), and an Academic Coordinator at Siraj Institute in Ottawa. Earlier, he was a Research Fellow at HBKU, working on a few research projects on Islamic Finance and Islamic Studies, and served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Law Department in SOAS. His career includes a stint as a Legal Assistant at a Law firm in London, UK. Saqib has a few publications under his name in English and Arabic. His research interests lie in the areas of Islamic Jurisprudence, the Science of Maqasid (Objectives of Law), Comparative Jurisprudence, Muslim Family Law, Islamic Social Finance, and Human Rights in Islam. His current research is on understanding the developments of different cultures under the label of Islamic Law.
